It has been announced that Adam Sandler will be the recipient of the next Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
The coveted award is presented each year to comedians "who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to" Mark Twain.
"Adam Sandler has thrilled audiences with his films, music, and SNL stint," stated Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter.
"Adam's creation of characters has not only made us laugh, but also made us cry—from laughing so hard."
I am looking forward to an evening of laughing like no other as we commemorate his career at a ceremony that will undoubtedly bring together the greatest in comedy."
Sandler will be the second comedian to receive the prize, following former The Daily Show host Jon Stewart in 2022.
Dave Chappelle, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Letterman, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Jay Leno, and Carol Burnett are among the previous recipients.
The award is presented by the Kennedy Center at an annual ceremony in which fellow comedians pay tribute to the honoree.
This comes as Sandler has been gaining Oscar buzz for his latest dramatic turn, the basketball flick Hustle.
