Two injured in tiger attack in Bihar’s West Champaran

The victim, Sonam Kumari, 7, a resident of Sirisiya village below Naurangia police station, went to a nearby field to get some grass on Monday evening and was attacked by a tiger roaming the area. When she called for help, Subhash Mushar, who was working in the same agricultural field, rushed to her aid. The tiger also attacked him, injuring him.

After the attack, a large number of villagers gathered at the place and the tiger disappeared.

The victims have been admitted to a subdivision hospital for treatment and are out of danger. The local villagers claimed that the tiger may have strayed from the adjacent Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) and ended up in the residential area.

In October last year, a man-eating tiger was killed in West Champaran County by snipers hired by the State Forest Department. That tiger had killed 11 people in the region.
