TN Assembly Passes Bill on Mandatory Tamil Paper in Government Recruitment Exam
The bill therefore amends the Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Terms of Service) Act, 2016.
While introducing the bill, Finance and Human Resources Management Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan recalled that a mandatory Tamil language document was introduced for direct recruitment for all competitive examinations in the state through the Government Decree of 1 December 2021. It was intended to protect the interests of Tamil youth, he said.
“In order to give statutory effect to the said Implementing Order, the Government has decided to appropriately amend the Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Terms of Service) Act, 2016 (Tamil Nadu Act 14 of 2016) and to order any action taken or anything done on the basis of said order,” he said.
The minister pointed out that unlike the legislation enacted by the erstwhile AIADMK government, which allowed the candidates to delete the Tamil newspaper within two years from the date of recruitment, according to the legislation of the DMK government, the Tamil language paper is compulsory for recruitment. .
The House approved the bill by vote and was later adjourned indefinitely.
