The origin of Benoit Blanc and his accent – why does it sound different?

Talented detective Benoit Blanc is followed on the private island of a software millionaire named Miles Bron in Netflix’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” Miles had prepared a murder mystery game for his friends, but when one of them dies, things quickly turn violent. Over the course of a day, the plot changes from a gathering of friends to the murder of enemies, with Blanc at the center. We begin to wonder about Blanc when we learn the secrets of the individuals he watches. Where does he come from? What accent does he have? We have answers for you if you have the same questions.

The origin of Benoit Blanc and his accent

Blanc investigates the secrets of each of his suspects to solve the riddles, but he himself is a mystery to the beholder. Nothing about his background, who he is, where he came from or how he became a detective is discussed in the film. This makes sense given that the stories are primarily about the current investigation, which has little to do with Blanc’s past. Rian Johnson, the filmmaker, intended to keep it that way.

The director explained that Blanc was supposed to remain a mystery during an interview with Netflix Tudum. He just added the phrase “slight southern accent” when he first wrote the character to give Daniel Craig something to relate to. The note gave Craig a lot of leeway, and he chose to take advantage of this by giving the accent his own unique spin. “I may not have done it, but I went for it,” the man drawled when he talked about the stupidity. To set it up [Blanc] apart from the other characters and perhaps exposing him to ridicule, he [Rian Johnson] wanted something, the actor told NPR.

While it was exciting to try out for an acting role, Craig was also concerned that he wouldn’t do well. The first time he practiced it in front of the rest of the cast, he was quite nervous. In front of me was Jamie Lee Curtis. So do the rest of these talented actors. And everyone just says, “Come on then.” He commented, “It was like, ‘Okay, here we go. Fortunately, the accent worked pretty well and became one of his character’s defining traits. Chris Evans’ character liked to joke about it, calling it “Kentucky- fried Foghorn Leghorn drawl.”

One of the things that draws audiences to Blanc is his accent. Moreover, this makes him seem like an outsider in the otherwise tight-knit community. Little details about his life are only revealed through his actions, because he never talks about himself; for Craig, this is enough. Craig claimed that the ambiguity surrounding Blanc and the absence of his backstory is similar to that of Hercule Poirot in his interview with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused.

Poirot appeared more or less out of nowhere, solved the case, and then disappeared. That puzzle is significant. The attention is not on him. He [Blanc] should be a mystery. I don’t want to know what he did when he was twelve. The James Bond star added: “I’m glad people are just making it up (his life). All things considered, we can deduce from Benoit Blanc’s accent that he’s from one of the southern states of the United States. As for the remaining information about his life, we will have to wait and see if any major revelations are revealed about him in the upcoming movie or movies.
