The facelift in Varanasi should be completed in March
Division Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma said: “The first G20 event in Varanasi will take place in April, followed by a second event in June and three others until August. The list of works for a full facelift with special focus on the routes leading to the airport lead, hotel Taj, Rudraksh International Convention Center, DDU Trade Facilitation Center, Namo Ghat and others have been completed. All proposed works would be completed by March 31.”
Given the time constraints, tenders have been issued to hire several companies and contractors and areas of focus have been identified, he said.
Trade leaders have been given options for a uniform color of buildings, while themed murals and paintings would also be completed by the end of March, he added.
Facilities, especially the expansion of parking spaces with dedicated space for G20 summit events, have started at the LBSI airport, the commissioner said.
The PWD officials have been asked to explore a car park near hotel Taj, the possibility of widening the Godowlia-Assi road and developing the Namo Ghat-Padao-Visheshwarganj-Maidagin route as a VIP road.
The PWD will also provide wall art beautification at Chowkaghat underpass and the electrical department has been asked to complete pole shifting works.
