Steven Tyler Health: 2023 doesn’t look good for him due to increasing health issues and allegations of sexual assault
Without a doubt, Aerosmith ranks among the greatest rock bands of all time. The band was founded in 1970 and has been playing for over 50 years. However, lead singer Steven Tyler, 74, has not been doing well lately. On doctor’s advice from Steven, the band announced on December 8, 2022 that they would be postponing the remaining dates of their 2022 Las Vegas residency.
Aerosmith tweeted: “On doctors advice Steven has to sit this one out. Stay healthy and we’ll see you in the new year!”
No specific illness or ailment Tyler was battling was mentioned.
But this isn’t the first time Steven’s health has forced the “Dream On” rockers to cancel concerts. Steven’s health forced Aerosmith to postpone a December 2 performance. Then what happens to the rock star? Here’s what we do know.
Steven Tyler’s health: He relapsed in May 2022 and voluntarily entered rehab.
Steven has battled a highly visible drug addiction that nearly cost him his job. Over the years, the father of four has gone in and out of treatment centers.
After foot surgery in May 2022, Steven relapsed because he couldn’t control his pain. At the beginning of the band’s stay in Las Vegas, he chose to enroll in a treatment program. As a result, all scheduled performances from May through September were postponed.
It is unknown if Steven’s most recent ailment is an illness or if he has unfortunately relapsed.
Steven started using drugs as a teenager in the 1960s, as he previously admitted to GQ in 2019, but the rockstar lifestyle caught up with the singer during his early years with the band. In fact, Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and Steven Tyler used to be infamously referred to as one of the “Toxic Twins” due to their heavy drug use.
Does the Sound in My Head Disturb You?, Steven’s 2011 autobiography, details all of the substances he used, including marijuana, OxyContin, heroin, methamphetamine, methadone, LSD, and cocaine. It is estimated that he spent as much as $6 million on narcotics over the course of his existence.
Steven had been sober for over a decade before relapsing in May 2022. According to AddictionCenter.com, the musician had stayed sober since entering the Betty Ford Clinic rehab program in 2009.
Steven Tyler faces assault charges in new lawsuit.
According to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone on December 29, 2022, Steven is being charged with assault, assault, and intentionally inflicting mental distress on a minor. He is also charged with forcing the young person to have an abortion, the lawsuit said.
Julia Holcomb is the plaintiff, and she claims that although she was only 16 and Steven 25, they began having sexual intercourse in 1973.
According to Julia, when Aerosmith was on tour in town, they first met when he drove her back to his hotel room after a performance. Steven allegedly committed Julia “many acts of unlawful sexual conduct” after describing her age and difficult family life, according to Julia. He sent her home in a taxi the next morning. After meeting in Portland, Steven reportedly flew her to Seattle to continue their relationship.
She further claims that Steven persuaded her mother to grant him temporary legal custody of her in 1974 by promising to look after her. He “did not significantly honor these commitments and instead continued to travel with her, assault her, and offer liquor and narcotics,” the lawsuit said.
Julia claims Steven threatened to stop supporting her if she didn’t get pregnant when she supposedly got pregnant in 1975. She claims that after the abortion she returned to Portland and converted to Catholicism, which she would remain for the rest of her life.
At this time, Steven has not responded to the allegations or the complaint.
