Security strengthened for ‘Khichdi Mela’ in UP’s Gorakhpur

Devotees will have to go through three layers of security to participate in the Mela.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Akhil Kumar, said devotees will have to go through three layers of security. The first check would be made at the entrance of the city, the second at the entrance to the Gorakhnath Temple precincts and the third at the entrance gate of the main temple.

The Gorakhnath Temple has received several bomb threats, some of them fake, forcing security to be increased.

The district administration has made preparations for the week-long Gorakhpur Festival to be held at Champa Devi Park between January 11 and 17.

Speaking to reporters, Mahendra Singh Tanwar, festival nodal officer and vice chairman of GDA, said that nearly 200 artists will participate in the festival, including 180 local ones.

Official sources said that the Mela building was divided into four super zones. In addition, a police station was located near the temple.

The annual Khichdi Mela attracts thousands of devotees from both India and Nepal and is a highly anticipated event.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, head of Gorakhnath Temple, has personally overseen the arrangements.
