Premier League: Chelsea return to winning ways, beat Crystal Palace 1-0
Kai Havertz scored the match winner and rose highest in the air in the 65th minute to end the goalless deadlock in the London derby and head in Hakim Ziyech’s throw as Stamford Bridge paid his respects to his former player and manager in their first home game since the Italian’s death.
Chelsea also owed a series of important saves from Kepa Arrizabalaga, the most important of which came late by refusing Cheick Doucoure.
The win ended a run of three straight defeats for Chelsea as they moved to 28 points from 19 games, the same as Liverpool who have one game left to play.
With Lewis Hall and Hakim Ziyech providing width down the field, Chelsea started with determination and soon ventured into the Crystal Palace penalty area.
Their teenage full-back Benoi Badiashile led the attack and drove forward down the channel left before firing a ball into the six-yard penalty area which was expertly watched and cleared by Joachim Andersen.
On the other hand, the Eagles created their own chances and Kepa Arrizabalaga had to get off his line quickly to get a free head before the Spaniard thwarted Michael Olise with a flying save to push away a rising half-volley hit. In between those efforts, Tyrick Mitchell was also denied by a staggered save from Kepa.
In another game, Newcastle United beat Fulham 1–0 with Alexander Isak scoring in the 89th minute.
