NIA Files Additional Charges in JMB Case

The accused Ali Asgar, alias Abdullah Bihari, was charged under various sections of India’s Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The case was initially registered on March 14, 2022 at STF police station and later the investigation of the case was taken over by the NIA.

The NIA had previously filed charges against six suspects on September 7.

“Investigations have revealed that the accused Ali Asgar alias Abdullah Bihari was deeply influenced by the ideology of various proscribed terrorist organizations, such as JMB and Al Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent, with the intention of promoting its activities in India. He entered into a criminal conspiracy with his associates to influence, radicalize and motivate Indian Muslims to prepare for violent jihad against the Indian state. Following the said criminal conspiracy, the accused Ali Asgar translated jihadist literature from Urdu/Arabic into Hindi and uploaded it on social media groups for distribution to impressionable Muslims,” the NIA said.

The National Anti-Terror Agency has learned that the accused was involved in causing discontent towards India through false and distorted preachings that democracy was anti-Islamic and that Muslims in India were persecuted for democracy.
