Lalan Sheikh dead: Calcutta HC forwards autopsy report to AIIMS, SSKM
A single Justice Judge Jay Sengupta ordered the state government to forward the post-mortem report to both All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) – New Delhi and SSKM Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata for the respective observations.
At the earlier hearing, counsel for the CBI had expressed doubts about the contents of the autopsy report, arguing that while no wound had been discovered on the victim’s body prior to the autopsy, the inquest reported some superficial bruises on the body .
Although the central body’s counsel also called for a second autopsy examination of Lalan Sheikh’s body, this could not be done due to the objections of the victim’s wife, Reshma Biwi.
In such a situation, Judge Sengupta decides to forward the existing autopsy report to the two medical institutes. He also noted that based on the observations of the experts from SSK and AIIMS, Delhi, he would decide on the next step in this regard.
The CBI has already challenged the state police FIR in the Calcutta High Court, claiming it was motivated because it named Sushanta Bhattacharya, the investigating officer in the livestock smuggling scam and has no connection with the separate central agency investigating the Bogtui massacre.
