Is ‘The Holiday 2’ Really Happening After 17 Years? Rumors explained

In late 2006, moviegoers rushed to see The Holiday. The romantic comedy starring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black quickly became popular. It has entered many people’s holiday rotations more than fifteen years later. However, new reports have left some fans wondering when a sequel would be released.

What is the holiday?

Nancy Meyers wrote, produced and directed the 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday. It opens with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz playing women from the UK and US respectively, who decide to switch residence for a change of scenery during the holidays. They fall in love with Jude Law, who plays Winslet’s brother, and Jack Black as they travel across the pond (who plays a film composer associate of Diaz’s).

The Holiday premiered on November 29 in New York City and debuted on December 8 in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It became the eleventh highest-grossing film directed by a woman in the 2000s after making $63 million domestically in North America and $142 million internationally.

Is The Holiday 2 coming?

At the beginning of December there were first rumors about a sequel to The Holiday. The Sun claimed filming would resume in the United States and United Kingdom in 2023 and that the lead ensemble cast had all agreed to return. This started the rumor mills and raised the possibility of a sequel.

Unfortunately, a number of well-known characters from the original movie quickly disproved the reports. The Holiday’s screenwriter, producer and director Nancy Meyers took a screenshot of one of many tweets about a future sequel. She wrote, “Sorry, but it’s not real. So many DMs on this.

In an interview with People to promote Avatar: The Way of Water, Kate Winslet also addressed the claims. The Oscar winner admitted: “I’ve read something about that, but this is the first I’m hearing about it. I swear I didn’t talk to any agents, representatives or anyone else about it from the start. I can honestly say that has never happened before.”

Sadly, it looks like The Holiday won’t be rebooted or continued any time soon, despite the fact that Hollywood seems to be inundated with it these days.
