Has Dr Death been renewed for Season 2? When is it coming?
The original miniseries Dr. Peacock’s Death, which told a gruesome story of medical negligence based on actual events, was a surprise hit for the streaming service. It was based on the podcast of the same name, which served as inspiration. It followed the life of Christopher Duntsch (Joshua Jackson), a horrible surgeon known for routinely dismembering a long list of patients and killing two of them while under the knife. While this is happening, fellow doctors Robert Henderson (Alec Baldwin) and Randall Kirby (Christian Slater) try to stop him. This is accomplished with the help of Michelle Shugart, a lawyer (AnnaSophia Robb) who wants to convict Duntsch of murder.
It’s still one of Peacock’s most renowned original programs, making a sequel an ideal choice. Fortunately, a second season of Dr. Death is in production, according to an article in Variety. While we don’t follow Christopher Duntsch’s prison career, we get access to a new account of medical mutilation.
Here’s everything we currently know about Dr. Death.
Dr. Death Season 2: The Plot
The second season of Dr. Death follows a brand new story as the podcast’s first season was a seasonal anthology. According to Variety’s report, the second season of Dr. Death contain the following plot:
“Paolo Macchiarini, a charming doctor known for his inventive procedures that earned him the nickname “Miracle Man,” will be the focus of the Season 2 story. The lines between private and professional begin to blur when investigative journalist Benita Alexander approaches for a story that changes her life forever. A group of doctors on the other side of the world also make startling discoveries that call into question everything about the “Wonderman” as they discover just how far Paolo will go to keep his secrets private.
This corresponds to the first podcast. It looks like season two will put more emphasis on Macchiarini and Alexander’s relationship than season one, which saw Duntsch in particular being chased by Kirby and Henderson. The phrase “group of doctors on the other side of the world” suggests a level of travel not seen in the first season, expanding the show’s scope and potentially taking us on a global journey. We don’t know yet if Kirby and Henderson will be with those doctors.
Dr. Death Season 2: The cast and crew
Little is currently known about the cast and crew of Dr. Death season two. However, Paolo Macchiarini and Benita Alexander have been cast as the stars of the season, according to an official announcement.
Edgar Ramirez will play Paolo Macchiarini, according to Variety. The Venezuelan actor played famed fashion icon Gianni Versace in season two of FX’s American Crime Story. In addition, he played in various roles in the films The Undoing, The Last Days of American Crime and Jungle Cruise. He is likely to star in the role of a scheming, malevolent doctor based on his previous appearances in crime-themed dramas.
Mandy Moore, who has gained fame in recent years with performances on This is Us and Tangled, plays Benita Alexander. The actress is also known for her musical career, she has released seven albums between 1999 and 2022 and her debut album, So Real, earned a platinum certification.
Patrick Macmanus, the showrunner for the first season, will now serve as an executive producer for the second season. Macmanus was the executive producer of the SyFy show Happy!, a black comedy series based on the comic book novel of the same name. Ashley Michel Hoban, who also collaborated with Macmanus on Happy! and served as producer for the first season of Dr. Death, will take over from him.
Jennifer Morrison, who previously directed the first four episodes, is known for her role as Dr. Cameron in House MD and Emma Swan in Once Upon a Time. The last four episodes are directed by Laura Belsey, whose resume is quite extensive and includes numerous episodes from The Walking Dead, Arrow and Criminal Minds, among others.
Publication date
Season Two of Dr. Unfortunately, Death won’t be released until later this year. From the right time, we can expect the show to premiere in 2023.
Dr. Death Season 2: Everything Else
We already know what to expect from the third season should the show move beyond season two. The podcast’s third season serves as the basis for season two of the program.
The second season of the podcast focuses on oncologist Farid Fata, who illegally recommended chemotherapy in cases where it was not necessary. It’s likely that the show skipped season two of the podcast to stick with the series’ recurring topic of surgery or because a dramatic adaptation of Paolo Macchiarini’s story works better than a podcast adaptation. Should the program continue to be successful, we at least have a potential starting point for a third season.
