Despite numerous speculations predicting the rebirth of the series over the years and the fact that it has been 15 years since the previous films hit theaters, Disney has yet to officially announce the third installment in the series. Jerry Bruckheimer, the film’s producer, recently gave an encouraging update on National Treasure 3. As a result, things could soon change for the better.

National Treasure 3 is in the works, producer says

Producer Bruckheimer recently hinted that a third installment in the National Treasure franchise would soon be produced while promoting the Disney+ spin-off series based on the movies called National Treasure: Edge of History.

When we said we’d like to make a second National Treasure movie, they replied, “Sure, let’s put together a new cast. National Treasure, which we’re still working on, was co-developed for theater release with Nicolas Cage. So that’s still going on,” Bruckheimer noted.

Considering that the first movie ended on a cliffhanger, National Treasure 3 makes even more sense. In National Treasure: Book of Secrets, “Page 47” of the book served as a major story point.

The content on the page was called “life-changing,” but the idea was abandoned. We could eventually learn the essential details when the third film is produced.

Disney was ready to make National Treasure 3 in 2008

Numerous rumors of the franchise’s revival have surfaced over the years, but none have materialized. According to reports, in 2008, Disney and producer Jon Turteltaub were willing to begin development on the threequel. The producer had previously stated that the creative team was working on the plot and production would begin soon.

However, the project stalled in early 2010. People continued to guess at the outcome of the film for the next few years. Cage went on to say that his dwindling success at the box office was the reason Disney lost interest in the project.

Spin-off series National Treasure: Edge of History recently premiered on Disney+

Disney made the decision to move forward with a spin-off series rooted in the same universe as National Treasure, but with a different cast as rumors surrounding the third film continued. Recent reviews of the show’s Disney+ launch have been divided. Starring Jake Austin Walker, Jordan Rodrigues, Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed and Antonio Cipriano.

The premiere of the program has revived the discussion about National Treasure 3. The creators of the show, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, have also indicated that they want to include Cage in the spin-off.

Even if Bruckheimer is optimistic about the third National Treasure film now, a lot still depends on Disney making the revival a success. To decide whether to continue the film franchise, the studio may be monitoring the spinoff’s ratings.
