Balbir Singh, the Patiala (rural) legislator who won the 2022 parliamentary election by a whopping 50,000 votes, took charge of the Health and Family Welfare Minister here and told the media that health and education are the main areas of concern of government.

“Therefore, my priority will be that grassroots health programs are implemented to provide quality primary, secondary and tertiary health care facilities.”

The health sector will be lifted to greater heights with the cooperation of the government and private sector, he added.

Renowned eye surgeon and philanthropist Balbir Singh has been providing low-cost eye care to farmers and the poor masses for four decades. As a physician, he treated thousands of patients at low cost and donated sight to over 30,000 blind patients, in addition to distributing free medicines to tens of thousands of patients.

Patients from all over the northern region, especially from Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, flock to Patiala for treatment by Balbir Singh.

Balbir Singh received many awards from state governments across the country and organized a free medicine and medical service langar at the borders of Delhi during the farmers’ agitation against the three agricultural bills which were later scrapped.
